Silent Hunter 3 All Submarines Jun 2026

The Type IX is the "Lone Wolf" of the deep. This large, ocean-going submarine is built for endurance. It sacrifices some of the Type VII's agility for vastly superior range and a heavier torpedo loadout, making it the king of distant patrols to the American coast, the Caribbean, Africa, and even the Indian Ocean.

Now it's time to choose your boat, assemble your crew, and slip beneath the waves. Good hunting, Herr Kaleun.

Released in 2005, Silent Hunter 3 remains the gold standard for World War II submarine simulation. Unlike later entries that bounced between theaters and nations, SH3 focuses entirely on the German Kriegsmarine’s U-boat arm—the U-Bootwaffe . For nearly two decades, players have asked the same question: “Which submarine should I choose?” silent hunter 3 all submarines

Transfer to Type VIIB immediately. This is the peak U-boat experience in SH3. Hunt convoys west of Ireland.

If you prefer long missions to distant hunting grounds like the American coast (Operation Drumbeat) or the South Atlantic, the Type IX is your vessel of choice. The Type IX is the "Lone Wolf" of the deep

The Type XXI was the first submarine designed to operate entirely submerged. With a massive battery capacity, streamlined hull, and hydraulic torpedo reload system, it was decades ahead of its time. Only two saw combat before the war ended.

The Type II was a coastal submarine built in violation of the Treaty of Versailles. Small, agile, and slow, it served primarily in the North Sea and Baltic during the early war.

The Type IX was designed for distant waters: the Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico, Freetown (Africa), and even the Indian Ocean. They were larger, slower to dive, but carried more fuel and torpedoes.

Available only in the final months of the campaign (late 1944–1945), the Type XXI changes how Silent Hunter 3 is played. It is the world's first true submarine, designed to operate permanently submerged rather than as a surface ship that occasionally dives.
